Katie Duke is Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with 15+ years experience in Nursing who lives and works in New York City. In addition to her full time career as an NP, she is also an editorial contributor, public speaker, mentor, agency represented social media influencer, and founder of the “Duke It Up Empowerment Event” which is a lifestyle and career empowerment workshop.
Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, she left in her mid 20’s to pursue a feeling inside her that there was “something greater out there”, and that feeling led her to New York City. New York proved to be the right move for Duke because it was the energy of the city that inspired her to leave a very abusive relationship, pursue completing her education, and provided opportunities that opened up new chapters in her life.
One of those chapters was being a featured Nurse on the Primetime ABC Medical Documentary series “NY MED”, and its spinoff, “NY ER” on the Oprah Winfrey Network, TLC, and Discovery Life Channels. Albeit she had a controversial turn on NY Med related to a post on social media, she realized that the best way to work through life’s tough lessons is to own your mistakes, and lead others by sharing your experiences and teaching others.
From the exposure she gained on TV, she quickly realized that there is a huge void in the media world of relatable, educated, female healthcare personalities, and more so, a Nursing Professional.
Using her popularity from TV, she sought to fill this void, and established a platform on social media that is respected most for her authentic transparency and relatable content focusing on empowerment, lifestyle, and professional career insight.
Duke started with an Associates Degree in Nursing From Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes Jewish Hospital College in St. Louis, finished her BSN at City University of New York- Hunter College, and completed her education with a Masters of Science in Nursing as an Adult Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Columbia University in the City of New York, a prestigious Ivy League University.
She serves as a preceptor to Graduate students and newly hired NP’s, is a national keynote speaker at academic conferences, Universities, and lifestyle events, hosts the “Duke it Up” Event Series nationally and internationally, is a brand spokesperson for Cherokee Uniforms, maintains a full time social media influencer career represented by Viral Nation (an influencer talent agency), and has worked with global brands such as Laneige, Boost Nutrition, Match.com, Kaplan, Anisa International, Panera, Jet.com, SoFi Financial, Littmann, Swimsuits For All, Easy Spirit, Nurses Travel Network, and more. She serves as a key content contributor to Scrubs Magazine, and has been featured in global women’s empowerment media campaigns alongside Ashley Graham, Brooke Shields, and Angela Simmons.
Duke has been developing her brand spanning the course of the last 7 years. Over the last 3 years she has focused on monetizing her brand and building it into a business to open up multiple streams of income and opportunity.
She has grown her social media platforms to over 150,000 followers, elevated her content from starting with barter (product for post) partnerships to securing lucrative contracts with guaranteed post fees, speaking and appearance fees, and launching a collection of scrubs with Cherokee Uniforms, the first collab-collection in the medical apparel industry. These strategic moves have transitioned this to a secondary career and fueling the continued growth of her personal brand.
Her 5 year plan goals include authoring a book, and launching her collection of medical apparel and lifestyle products while continuing to grow the Duke It Up Empowerment Event Series.
